Description
In the 4xxx builds of longhorn you had this nice rotating user photo. In vista, the user photo is just static - unless you mouse over an item in which case you get a cheap alpha fading effect.

I liked the rotating user photo, so I tried to remake it. Took me a couple of hours debugging work.

Screenshots

After:

This is actually animated, so there's a small movie also.

WARNING
+ This only runs on [i]Windows Vista
, 32 bits. 64 bits version might cone one day. XP is not supported.
+ Since this application injects code into explorer.exe, bugs and errors of this application might take crash explorer. Run on your own risk.

Known issues
+ Stopping the hook manually thru the dialog and restarting it results in an explorer crash. I'm investigating this; in the meantime, always QUIT the application after stopping.
+ The image will not change if you hover other items in the startmenu. I'm still looking for a way to accomplish this.

Bugs
Of course, there are bugs. Please be as clear as possible when describing them. Simply saying "it crashed" doesn't help me a lot.

Very, very excellent work there! happy.gif

One suggestion: How about having the animation more "smoother," in a sense that the swing gradually slows down until it stops and gradually swings to the other side.

Since that whole panel was switched from its Hillel demo side (as shown, and it wasn't in any builds of longhorn either), maybe you can tilt it the other way on first hover, and a bit down too. It would look really cool then ohmy.gif

Man, this is sick. You did this so quickly and looks very nice smile.gif Also, maybe you can make a program like windows Dreamscene, but then for screensavers / XAML files. Or try to make a program which replaces the PreviewPane, since I already suggested.

Congrats, this is simply great!

- My User Pic isn't displayed, I get a "error bmp" message
- Clicking in the square to go to the user account control panel closes the start menu, but the spinning png remains open

I'm running: something...

Hovering over the menu options in the static (black) portion of the start menu doesn't change the image in the rotating imageholder the way it does in the plain default one. It might take some effort to fix, but it would make it feel better.
Missed your "known issues" list.

Impressive regardless.
