I'm not a sudoku fanatic, but I've done a couple. I have a very mechanistic approach in the solution - so mechanistic that I knew I could write a program to do it. I also like to write DHTML programs, since that increases my gadget-fu.

Therefore, I have written the attached program/web-page. Just load it, enter the numbers from your sudoku puzzle, and it will either solve it for you, or if the puzzle is a more difficult one it will solve the squares that it can using my algorithm, and give you a nice graphical representation of the possible values in the remaining cells.

Let me know what you think!

p.s. rename 'sudoku.html.txt' to 'sudoku.html', and tell it to run the script when the security warning comes up. If you don't trust me, read the source code yourself. *grin*

Update: here's a screenshot:
Attached File  sudoku.PNG ( 8.7K ) Number of downloads: 18

The black numbers are the ones I entered. The small grey squares indicate numbers that are not allowed in the associated cell. The red numbers are deduced by the program when a cell has eight grey squares filled in.

I am not getting the Security warning. I can only add a number into 1 box.
