you need a field for XMPP IM in profiles. Whats that? I just think some sort of moderation is needed or at least have a time every week that the rooms open. The best way is to have an active member whos trustworthly to help moderate on the chat room. I do have a general idea of what the new site may be, as it was discussed in the subscriber forums, but I was "sworn to Secretary" so I'm not able to say it. I want to though and no, I wont tell in a PM eirther -------------------- |

xmpp is jabber, a superior IM protocol.
As for a channel (due to my extensive IRC background i absolutely hate the word chat room) it should stay open 24/7, due to people being on the complete other side of the world. Here take this senerio, you have #aeroxp on EFNet, bryant, rob, the other staff etc... have ops, subscribers get voice, have a aeroxp bot in the channel (i'd be happy to donate one i have several on EFNet already), and have a QWebIRC or Eris Flash Chat for the main website. That solves infrastructure. Keep an op in North America, Europe, and Asia or Australia at minimum. Have a good firm grip on how bans, exceptions, and invex (cmode +beI respectively) work. That covers channel moderation. Not only does IRC have the /ignore system, but EFNet also has CallerID, umode +g, which is a server side ignore system. This covers members harassing other members in a /query. Sure you might run across the one or two kids who will switch hosts to banevade, you can ban hostmasks channelside just as well as you could with a k/d:line. If you still have issues, /stats p for an available oper, because that's their job. This senerio: * Allow those who already use IRC to be able to use it. * Allow those who don't to use a web chat panel. * Allows for moderation but not harassment. * Doesn't require everybody who uses IRC already to connect to a separate network for one channel. |

Agreed on the videos tag. videos can easy be posted in a general discussion lounge.
I really think we need a "real world" type forum where we can post news stories and stuff that goes on in the real world. Too many techie stories on here. Branch out and have people see the real side of us -------------------- |

Ditch the profile rating systems. They are useless and people get voted down because some kid thinks its cool to vote someone down because "they dont like them"

How about this idea?
Let us be able to actually control the below settings. ![]() I have no idea what kind of restrictions there are, but a friend who has a post count of the mid-80's can't even edit his profile, or create a signature. The only thing we are allowed to change in the above category, is the "Personal Portal Information." I can only think of one forum (out of almost 50) that has something similar to this, and they disable control of that section until you have at least 10 posts. |
