I'm running: something...

We started tossing subtle hints on the site last week to highlight our presence at this year's PDC in Los Angeles. Now, roughly three weeks before the event kicks off, I'd like to know what you want us to cover the most: which keynotes you want to hear the most, which sessions you would prefer to hear, and which "UnSessions" you'd like to see. If it's within our bounds (A Sinofsky Interview is out of the question, unfortunately), we can deliver. Sub-Events to choose from: If you have any people in mind whom you think would provide good insight into a particular subject, feel free to list them as well and I'll see what I can do.

If you're registered, please leave your ideas as replies here. If you're not registered, feel free to leave suggestions on the front page post on the subject. (On that note, why not subscribe? We pay out of pocket for these trips, and we're kinda broke. Even a little bit helps!)

1) Well, Tony's asking for a liveblog which we're actively working on. I'll highlight the important bits after each keynote which I attend, though I'm hoping to find out which ones you guys want me to attend most.

2) Fixed the link.

3) The muffin is my interview mic. It's definitely coming.

"Windows 7: Welcome to the Windows 7 Desktop" sounds interesting.

I would say cover the talks about Native Windows Presentation Foundation and about Native Web Services. They sound very promising. smile.gif

I'm running: Human 2.0

0. Any 'joke' videos (now that Gates has retired they cant really do ones of him during keynotes, so maybe ballmer might be up for making a fool of himself in those funny videos, he has made cameos in the Gates ones) to add to the collection.
1. I would like to see a catalog all the build strings into a list. Every different string you can find add it to some list which can then be posted on axp. Extra credit if you get photos.
2. Based on some wild stories which i have heard I wonder if anyone attending could... hum nevermind. wink.gif wink.gif lol ...again and not get caught. (Actually I don't recommend anyone do anything shifty this time, I just thought it would be funny to bring it back up for the sake of memory...)
3. Photos / videos of any new or redone features; such as maybe sideshow making a comeback (a rumor, but well did it ever get off the ground with vista? lol), multi-touch, other cool api stuff, third party stuff (amazon demo/fox sports gadget type stuff where a third party shows off integration and product implementation into the OS)
4. More Live integration information (yeah we already know about IE accelerators in the OS, but anything past what we know with IE8 b2 and the wave 3 betas, such as api's for integrating the ribbon into third party apps.
5. anything you think we dont yet know about publicly, such as new toys or goodies. Microsoft tends to have a 'good' build shown off at least once during pdc and a video or photos of it would be nice.
6. Deets on any non 7 stuff: Windows Cloud OS (IMHO could just be an extension of Mesh into a bigger project), Windows Server 2008 R2, WM7, Zune on WM (has been confirmed by Ballmer), 'WTFhardware' (like athens, windows home, Haiku, etc.)
7. Anything microsoft research or experimental (such as the plastic laptop thing you scoped out that engadget linked and the hybrid UMPC with a sideshow built into the display with a switch).
8. Yeti, Loch Ness, Big Foot, Cherry Blossoms, or UFOs (but not aliens).
9. If you do video interviews try to maintain ambient noise at a minimum if at all possible wink.gif, videos from the floor can be noisy because thats understandable.
10. Finally another photo of pdc food to go with the other shot I got from Rafael a (long) while back.

  1. Will try.
  2. Do you mean in general? Like all the different builds I see at PDC? Seems like a waste, but I'll do it if I have time in between things.
  3. No.
  4. Yep.
  5. Yep.
  6. Yep.
  7. Yep.
  8. Yep.
  9. No.
  10. Depends on whether I've got enough ability to grab an interview mic. That's going to be iffy given that I'm broke. Otherwise, make do with the muffin (which actually isn't that bad)
  11. That one's a quicky, so yeah I can do that.

It's not a simple question. Too much stuff will be available online. The build will leak, the sessions obviously should be posted by Microsoft (as they did with PDC'03, PDC'05, MIX'es) and the keynotes will be either available in record or as online broadcast (as it was with WinHEC's, MIX'es, not sure about PDC'05, don't remember). So any parts of the "backstage life" of the conference would be interesting, as well as any parts of the shows that could be censored by Sinofsky's "copyrights" and won't be available in records / broadcasts directly from Microsoft.

Someone make sure to send me a tweet or text message when that happens. twitter.com/conhopper

Anyway, my plan has always been to catch the backstage life of the events as well as meetings, briefings, et cetera. You guys should have an interesting show smile.gif

Cool! I have confidence in you Bryant. You have always brought us great stuff and this year will be no different. If I do get hired for the job that I am going for, I will donate a little something to the site. This is by far the best place to get Windows news in a friendly environment. smile.gif

All I have to say is cover what you think might be beneficial to us.
