my uxtheme.dll file is gone

I was trying to install some non-Vista themes on Basic and I changed my uxtheme.dll file extension to uxtheme.old. Now when I start up it's just a black screen and I can't get online or anything. I know this has changed the entire Windows theme. The only thing I can open is my iTunes. Whenever I try to open any other program a message appears saying it cannot be opened because the file name uxtheme.dll can't be found. I found a place where I can re-download the file but since my wireless card doesn't work (because of all of this) I can't download it. Would re-installing Vista fix the problem? Maybe even an Ethernet cable so I can download it? I would try re-installing but I didn't receive the disk when I got my laptop last year and I don't know if I would even be able to open it. I can't perform a system restore either because I can't reach the start menu. Please help. Thanks!

I read the sticky on how to make custom visual styles, and Restorator 2007 looks fine and dandy, but what could I use to extract images when the trial for that runs out? The reason I need the images is to paint over them because I don't have any idea as to what the dimensions should be if I'm replacing resources.

(The download link to the template seems broken. But the template is basically just a copy of Aero, right?)

[Theme] Windows Slate for Vista

Serious work in progress.

This is a (more than likely) long-term attempt to replicate and extend the infamous Slate visual style found in Windows Longhorn Build 4051, Windows Longhorn Build 4053, and Windows Longhorn Build 4074. As of right now, I've been focusing on replicating the Build 4053 version of the theme.
This is just a preview of the groundwork of the theme. As of right now, I'm only focusing on a basic visual style. I don't expect to start any work on an Aero version during the life of this theme. Obviously there's a lot of work to be done, but I know there's been a lot of interest in doing a project like this, and I figured why not?
I have no idea when the visual style will be finished. This is very much a learning experience for me as well. I will not be giving out "alpha" or "beta" versions of this theme. Eventually, when I deem that the theme is worthy of release, I'll ask for five testers that'll be sent this "ready-for-consumption" version of the theme, I'll ask for their feedback and any tweaks they'll like, and when that's done I'll release the theme to the public.
I'd very much like to do a version of this theme for Windows 7, eventually, but I'm taking it one step at a time. I want the Vista version of the theme to be finished before I even consider starting work on a 7 version. No credit of the wallpaper goes to me, but it is an amazing piece of art that you should all checkout here :). I was going to wait to show off this theme, but I figured it'd be good to give everyone a preview of what I'm doing... no harm in that, right?

Windows Slate for Vista Screenshots (Milestone 1.5)

I'll update this post with screenshots of a newer build when I deem I've made enough progress to show everyone. :D
Thanks for looking! Enjoy. :D

I don't know why, but all of a sudden my pc has started to lag while trying to enjoy movies online. I terminated all of the background applications, but it continues to lag. I don't if it is because I updated my graphics card or what. Even that was awhile ago.

Specs:

authui.dll in SP2

I remember when hacking this DLL pre-SP2 you had to get the SP0 release of authui.dll - if you used the SP1 version the system would crash on boot-up (something to do with UAC determining that the file had been modified). I only found this out after a lot of trial and error and then came across a forum which said "you must revert to SP0 version of authui.dll".

Anyway, I'm not sure it's such a great idea to use SP0 version when SP2 is running so before I go through the trial and error phase again could someone tell me if it's safe to run authui.dll through Restorator or ResHack, modify it and then reboot?

Thanks.

Square Corners

I know this question has been asked before but I never really came across a straight answer. Is it possible to have perfect square corners in vista windows without the little bit of transparency problems at each corner? I have tried editing GlassGlow Final 2 by hirawan and AeroČ by Aazarah but they both have the same problem. You can minimise the problem by not using the Graphite colour scheme but is there actually any hard fix?

Thanks,
Shaun

Windows Vista SP2 Speed Increase?

Before I tell the whole thing alright. I hade my computer running windows Vista SP1 and my overall score based on my ram was 4.6. Now I dont know what changed it higher after I took out my screwed up dvd/c player that was using a IDE Connector on my pc. Today I put in my Sata CD/DVD SamSung after that my pc showed up as 4.6 still so thats ok I guess. What stun me is when I upgraded to windows vista sp2 my ram went from 4.6 to 5.0 when I refresh the index... What im trying to figure out. Does using IDE have a decrease on overall pc performance? Cause it seems that my 3gb of ram pc2-4200 500mhz if im right single channel got a boost of 5.0..... Is there something im missing here guys what do you think? Id like some input this is my first dvd/cd player running as sata and im trying to figure out why my pc jumped from 4.6 to 5.0 Once again thanks guys. If you wondering did I refresh my pc with Windows Vista SP1 after installing my new dvd/cd? No I didnt I just relize this under SP2.

Task Scheduler, Idle trigger - "wait for idle for" option?

Hi there,
I Googled for hours and pored over TechNet documents to no avail. I am trying to figure out the weird way that Microsoft has defined the "Idle" event trigger for the Vista/2008 Task Scheduler. I was able to figure out that Vista only checks every 15 minutes to see if the computer is in an "idle" state (no mouse/kb activity, screensaver is active, and cpu usage over the last 15 minutes averages <10% as far as I can tell). Basically, I am just trying to make a task that executes once when the computer enters this idle state. The task will simply run a batch file that does some housekeeping & maintenance tasks. Problem is, I cannot seem to figure out the right combination of settings within these config dialogs.

Does anyone know the "plain English" *detailed* explanations for the "Wait for idle for" option shown below? I am trying to understand what setting to use to have the computer just wait for 15 minutes of idle and then execute no matter what. I don't want any additional delay. Thanks in advance.
